Tony Sparks
As an Iyonix user, browsing the internet or CDs for public domain software can be frustrating. Many of the amusements and clever applications of years gone by are written in assembly language. Unlike programs written in BBC BASIC or C, assembly language listings often need recoding before they'll run on the Iyonix and A9. Often, but not always.
I've got two items of machine code software to recommend that unexpectly worked on my Iyonix. Two blasts from the past.
The first is the classic view from the Starship Enterprise as it hurtles through space at warp drive with stars flying by. I'd love to have this converted to work on my 1920 by 1200 pixel monitor, in 16 million colours. [Send it in to RISCOScode ! - ED]
As it is, "3D star field" from 1996 by David Williams is still cool. I use it as a screen saver. I found "Stars" on The RISC DISC 3 which you can buy on-line. I couldn't find the Stars program on the net. If it's just Stars you want, download it from the foot of this page.

The RISCOScode feature on Dave Higton's LED scrolling message board, last issue, jogged my memory concerning my second recommendation. This is called LED scroll. It's an absolutely brilliant software version of the same thing; no need to shell out for the Dream Cheeky device in the Sparks' household. Michael Foot's software requires that you drop down into a 256 colour screen mode, but other than that, it runs well on Iyonix.

Michael's website also features a few RISC OS classic games from the past such as Chuckie Egg and an excellent BBC Micro emulator. It's well worth a visit. Use the advert, right.
